Historic Third Ward
For a true taste of Milwaukee history, Untapped Tours takes you through the Historic Third Ward neighborhood. This warehouse district is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Milwaukee, and consists of many old warehouse and industrial buildings that have been converted to fabulous apartments and condos, hotels, retails spaces, restaurants and office buildings.
On the Lake Michigan shoreline, in the Third Ward’s easternmost area, you’ll find Henry Maier Festival Park (639 E. Summerfest Place). Home to Summerfest, the world’s largest music festival, this site is one of the busiest areas in town during the summer months. This land, once an airstrip and then a missile installation site, hosts several highly-attended festivals during the year, including chart-topping musical acts, ethnic food from all over the world, and plenty of entertainment for attendees of all ages.
At 631 E. Chicago Street, the Italian Community Center is dedicated to celebrate Italian culture and heritage in Milwaukee. By hosting all kinds of events from fitness to music to dining, the ICC is also the home to a very highly-regarded Easter brunch.
The Milwaukee Public Market, at 400 N. Water Street, opened in 2005 as a year-round market for local Milwaukee businesses. Inside, you’ll find unique gifts, local coffee, cheese, chocolate, as well as fresh seafood and selections from some of Milwaukee’s world-class restaurants. Drawing inspiration from such markets as the famous Pike Place Market in Seattle, the Milwaukee Public Market is a great destination for anyone visiting Milwaukee.
You can’t experience Milwaukee history without experiencing Milwaukee beer, and the Milwaukee Ale House (233 N. Water Street) has been pouring some of Milwaukee’s best micro beer and serving excellent food alongside it for 20 years. This brewpub was so good at brewing beer that it gave birth to a dedicated brewery in MKE brewing, located in the Walker’s Point neighborhood. Raise a pint and enjoy a beautiful view of the Milwaukee River from their excellent patio!
